DAVID MCVETTY, CAIP

Manager, Data Centre of Expertise

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)

Gatineau, Quebec

Dave McVetty’s career in the Government of Canada has focused on helping decision-makers to use their data and information assets to inform policies, program development, investments, and service delivery.  At Parks Canada, he built and led a team of specialists responsible for market research, program and service evaluation, and investment planning for Canada’s western and northern national parks and national historic sites.  He led national business transformation initiatives, including workforce adjustment and workplace modernisation, negotiated and managed research agreements with universities, and augmented his team’s capacity by working with some of Canada’s top research firms. He led the development of Parks Canada’s first Data Strategy and rebuilt its Performance and Analysis function.

Last year, Dave moved to the Labour Program of Employment and Social Development Canada to establish and lead its Data Management Centre of Expertise.  He has produced the Government of Canada’s first integrated Data and Information Management Strategy.  The strategy will strengthen the quality and integrity of the department’s data and information, align business processes and their information systems, build a skilled workforce to respond to new challenges, and reinvent the governance umbrella that oversees these activities.

Dave is a long-time board member of CAIP’s predecessor organisations, PMRS and MRIA. He is bilingual and lives happily in Gatineau, Quebec, with his partner Christiane.
